WFS Event -

Southampton

5th July 2014

So What is Walk for Survival?

Objectives

  • To increase awareness of global poverty, but also locally.

  • To educate people of this precious commodity which is easily accessible here but not in countries that have poor sanitation.

  • To deliver a message of hope that we stand united to show support for the poorest of areas.  The message is clear – Everyone has the right to access clean water and to have food. The basic essentials for living.

  • Local - To increase the communities knowledge of poverty in the local area – such as providing signposts to food banks; whether that is for the community to use them, or to assist in provisions for them.   This will also involve encouraging people to donate clothes and food to Southampton City mission.

  • To open up people’s hearts to show them that “small differences can make a huge difference to someone’s life”.  For people to get involved in helping their community before it is too late.

  • Funds will be collected and donations made to poverty organisations.

  • Africa - To assist Lioness Cubs home with some funding. This home is becoming established, and once established will provide more outreach to the wider community also, such as AIDS education, water provision and feeding stations.

  • To try and actively encourage people to be a part of helping towards poverty,   Together as a community differences can be made. People just need to be encouraged. It  is about changing attitudes and behaviour towards people who are suffering.  Then meet in the middle with government that can help this provision also.

  • Walk for Survival is also about supporting local businesses coming to showcase their new or established businesses.  To give them a chance up against bigger corporate businesses.

  • To also give the opportunity for inspiring musicians to sing on stage and bring the community together in a relaxed atmosphere.

  • Access for Deaf people will also be provided via interpreters who volunteer their time.

  • To educate and empower our younger generation now for the future and to encourage local schools, colleges and churches to become involved.
